It’s not as easy as demanding a worker be paid more, have generous maternity leave, or feel secure in their job. Higher salaries, copious amounts of time off, and firing restrictions all have costs. Fortunately for the advocates of measures, they are usually most simply paid by the people who would have had jobs but now aren’t cost-effective for the company. It’s not as easy as demanding “a person should receive a minimum wage” because the hidden addendum is “or not be hired at all”.
