Why the Best Should Sometimes Do Something Else

Supreme Court Justice John Roberts hires attorneys who are less skilled than himself to do his taxes. His time is better spent attending to legal matters. His absolute advantage in serving as a Justice and filing taxes matters less than his comparative advantage in the former and his attorneys’ in the latter. By focusing on the law, he does not need to waste time keeping up to date with esoteric tax code changes.
