When asked whether Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world, John Lennon reportedly quipped, “He’s not even the best drummer in The Beatles!”

Viewed through an economic lens, this could easily be true. If Ringo wasn’t the best drummer, he played the instrument because his opportunity cost was the lowest: the other members were better positioned in the alternative roles.
