The following three policies are those that I now consider foolish in light of their impact and what we have learned: (i) Protectionist policies that cripple international free trade, such as tariffs on steel. (ii) Anti-competitive policies that benefit the incumbent and punish customers, such as anti-trust laws. (iii) Price controls, like rent-fixing, because they retard the distributed way markets determine prices and allocate scarce resources.
