Free Markets Disproportionately Help Smaller Nations

Some products require such vast upfront investment to manufacture that it is only financially viable if demand is very high. At a large enough output, the economies of scale make the production worthwhile. In a global and free market, companies within small nations can reach the requisite economies of scale to be competitive. Without international trade, any company within a smaller country will never have access to a large enough consumer base.
