Epistemic Arrogance

Experts routinely suffer from epistemic arrogance when predicting the future, whether it’s a virus’ impact or a policy’s economic consequences. As our knowledge grows, our confidence outpaces it - we end up confused, ignorant, and conceited. This arrogance causes experts to overestimate what they know and underestimate uncertainty - the statespace of the unknown collapses to encompass far less than it should.
