Money is as good in the hands of the poor as the rich. In the aggregate, there is also often more of it. A company could turn a profit by acquiring a large estate and replacing it with multiple middle-class homes. This development is in the interests of all those except the wealthy, who may fight for laws that somehow restrict property rights. The spurned wealthy residents of a neighbourhood use zoning boards, “open space” laws, and historical preservations commissions to limit this use of private property. By infringing or negating property rights, wealthy property owners keep out lower-income people and increase their property’s value.
