Persons Do Not Stand For Groups

No individual represents a group. Each person within any arbitrarily defined collected is a human being in their own right, with their own concerns and interests. This basic fact is too easily forgotten when we speak of a sub-population as under- or over-represented in a community. When constructing an institution or forming a group, it will often benefit from a variety of perspectives. Therefore, we should prioritise that viewpoint diversity rather than use crude proxies that weakly correlate with the heterogeneity we want to engender.
