Fracking serves as the necessary bridge fuel to intermittent energy sources such as solar and wind. The recent innovation has done the best job at diminishing the coal use, which emits double the CO2 to natural gas. Eventually, we could use carbon capture to produce neutral gas and get our emissions to zero, but in the meantime, we need a fossil fuel of some type. Fracking is also a core component for harnessing geothermal energy.
