It takes a unique type of person to start an institution, be it religious or in business. Research has determined the the “type” is someone high in the trait “openness”. This trait is one of five in the OCEAN traits commonly used in personality psychology. It speaks to a person’s openness to new experience and ideas. We can imagine how this may predispose a person to be more likely to found a religion or company, but the trait isn’t well suited to running one.
