One must remember that an argument poorly made is not an argument worthy of writing off.
An interlocutor may do a poor job of articulating their point, or may even misunderstand their side of the debate. If they resort to fallacious reasoning this does not necessarily indicate that there is no merit to their argument. Remember that the “loser” of a debate can nevertheless be right, and the “winner” could be wrong.
