The Via Negativa is the “apophatic way” and holds that God can only be described in terms of what it is not as its infinite nature is beyond description.
The Via Positiva is the “cataphatic way” and believes God can be described through positive statements about what is true. Aquinas understood humans to be made in God’s image, and therefore we have the capacity to hint towards its’ qualities.
