The Moralisation Gap

The “Moralisation Gap” is a self-serving bias that allows us to see our behaviour in a positive light. If we misstep we view it as relatively harmless, inconsequential, and provoked; therefore, justifiable and forgettable. However, when wronged we interpret the slight as grievous if not egregious, unprovoked, and harmful. During a conflict, this dramatic difference in experiences is the “gap” which makes resolution difficult.
