Social desirability bias is a type of response bias in the social sciences and describes the tendency for a subject to answer questions in a manner which would be viewed favourably by others, notably the person conducting the study. It distorts data if the subject is falsifying their beliefs, preferences, or behaviours when answering questions in a study.
