The death toll is going to rise. For years there will be no planet Earth without the death of more humans. There’s a new deadly virus. We are being shown that we aren’t gods. Things in nature will always mess with our plans and when we forget it will remind us.
We can mitigate the impact, but it’s going to be a trade off of human wellbeing wit human wellbeing.
Depression stuck indoors earning no money, and eventually losing ability to afford food versus older / less healthy beloved members of society dying.
Neither are good options, but there are no good options
Further nuance could be added to much of this; some healthy people die, we could try to completely upend the economy to provide for people if they do no work, I’ve painted a false dichotomy, etc.
This is more to get us accepting that we’re between a rock and a hard place. We won’t find a realistic potential outcomes which makes us feel good.
