Preference Falsification

Prof. Timur Kuran termed “preference falsification” for those acts of communicating a preference which does not align with the true preference. The conveyed preference is often whatever the person believes is more socially acceptable. This in part explains why people’s stated preferences are socially influenced, and it lays a foundation for the investigation into unanticipated revolutions.
