Nothing in life is as important as you think it is while you are thinking about it.
The human brain has a remarkable capacity to take a lot of sensory input, filter the noise, and construct a story. It is less good at accounting for anything not already within the data to be considered. This “what you sense is all there is” aspect of our reactionary cognition results in a bias to overvalue that which is being focused upon. The more attention paid to a certain event or phenomenon the more important it will seem.
