Hospitals in the United States have been suing their patients. Hospitals don’t function as a charity, but the means used to determine who to sue are failing. People in low income jobs with multiple children are deemed to be capable of making the payment and must simply not be trying. Being taken to court by your primary healthcare provider results in stress which needn’t be spelled out.
Why is this happening? Health insurance companies are increasing their deductibles so as to keep their premiums low. The consequence of this is that “lower” fees are charged to the patient, and after multiple appointments this can easily total thousands of dollars of debt.
