The children of poor parents do not necessarily benefit from a higher household income. Via the use of many methods to remove correlations between parental styles and income Susan Mayer discovered that it was the approach to raising children which had the majority impact. Activities such as reading to children, taking them out, or playing with them were significant in their effect on a child’s success, and these same activities were less present on average in poorer households.
