Humans will incorrectly infer causation where none exists, as seen in the mass hysteria around vaccinations and autism. In this case there wasn’t even correlation, the concern was borne entirely of the coincidental timing in the age of children having their vaccinations and exhibiting first signs of autism. The best way to fight these emotionally resonant stories is with other stories based in reason and evidence.
