Lionel Shriver’s opening speech for the motion was what you would expect of a writer of her quality. David Lammy also did a good job in his opening speech against the motion, but he veered off into crazy land during the Q&A. Dawn Porter, also against, was poor from the start and seemed woefully unprepared, while Trevor Phillips seemed to be “for” the motion only in as much as he could say it was a good thing to tear society apart.
