The positives are obvious - lowered unemployment, investment in local infrastructure, a sense of purpose for the jobless, and a revitalisation of community. However, the reality may not live up to the rhetoric.
Federal government competence may prove an obstacle to implementation. There is likely a skills mismatch between the jobless and the jobs. There may also be a geographical mismatch. Worker discipline could prove problematic when the workers cannot be fired. Whether or not local governments may be incentivised to replace existing local tax supported jobs for federally funded job is also a concern.
