Hagfish slime is an incredible substance produced by the hagfish consisting of two main components - mucus and protein threads. Just 40mg of mucus and protein can create a litre of slime. It expands 10,000 times in a fraction of a second and is 100,000 less stiff than jelly. This is why, while strong and elastic enough to coat a hand, it feels so incorporeal.
