Deimatic Behaviour

Deimatic behaviour describes a bluffing behaviour often seen in somewhat defenceless organisms. The behaviour can be used to startle or distract a predator, giving the prey some time with which it can make an escape.
An example would be the Australian frilled lizard’s capacity to fan wide semicircular frills from either side of its’ head, open the mouth exposing the gape, and raise the body while waving the tail over it.
