Downward Causation

Downward causation is the misguided notion that the macro level on which something can be viewed has some impact on the micro level. The example often used is that it is not enough to know the nature of the water molecules in a snowflake to recognise its’ symmetrically and complexity. This isn’t true though because with all of the information on the molecular level you can extrapolate up to the macro level.
