Exposure Therapy

Exposure therapy is used to battle anxiety by working against the instinct of avoiding the anxiety causing the undesired behaviour and exposing oneself to the feeling. This works because in cases where there is no real danger the anxiety will pass and the person will learn that it is not a rational reaction. It does not work in cases where the participant simply “white-knuckles” through the unpleasant experience and decides that they got “lucky” to have survived.
